What is service V-6?

V-6 describes how a building measures and shares information about indoor air quality. Air quality relates to factors such as CO2 concentration, an indicator of sufficient ventilation. This service falls under the Ventilation domain, one of nine domains within the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI).

The SRI assesses how well building systems adapt to the needs of occupants and the electricity grid. V-6 is part of method A, the simplified measurement method with 27 smart-ready services. The full method B contains 54 services.

Which functionality levels apply to V-6?

The service has four levels, numbered 0 through 3. Each level builds on the previous one and adds more functionality.

• Level 0: no system for air quality reporting present.
• Level 1: air quality sensors, for example for CO2, with autonomous real-time monitoring.
• Level 2: real-time monitoring plus historical data, available to users.
• Level 3: real-time and historical data, with alerts for maintenance or required action, such as opening a window.

The higher the level, the more actively a building informs and guides users.

Why does this service count towards the score?

Each smart-ready service is assessed against seven impact criteria, such as energy efficiency, comfort and health. V-6 contributes especially to the health and wellbeing criterion, because air quality directly affects the indoor environment.

The score per service counts towards the building's overall SRI score, expressed as a percentage. That percentage determines which of the seven classes a building falls into, from below 20 percent to 90 to 100 percent.
