What does service DE-4 involve?
DE-4 falls under the Dynamic Building Envelope domain within the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI). The SRI is a European methodology that measures how well a building is equipped with smart, energy-efficient technology. This domain concerns parts of the building envelope that can actively move or respond, such as solar shading, screens or movable shutters.
DE-4 specifically examines the reporting of information about these systems. It is not about the presence of the dynamic building envelope itself, but about whether the building management system (BMS) provides information on its operation and status.
What functionality levels exist?
DE-4 has five levels, numbered from 0 to 4. Each level builds on the previous one and adds more information or functionality.
- Level 0: no reporting.
- Level 1: position of each product and fault detection.
- Level 2: plus predictive maintenance, meaning the system forecasts maintenance before a fault occurs.
- Level 3: plus real-time sensor data, such as wind, lux (light intensity) and temperature.
- Level 4: plus both real-time and historical sensor data.
The difference between level 3 and 4 lies in the availability of historical data alongside current measured values.
How does DE-4 count towards the score?
DE-4 is part of method A, the simpler of the two assessment methods within the SRI. Method A uses 27 of the total 54 smart-ready services that the full method B comprises.
The functionality level of DE-4 is assessed against seven impact criteria, for example energy efficiency and comfort. This score contributes to the building's final SRI score, which is expressed as a percentage and classified into one of seven classes.
