What does this smart-ready service measure?

Service C-1c belongs to the Cooling domain within the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI). The SRI is a European assessment framework that measures how well a building uses smart technology. This service looks specifically at how chilled water temperature in the distribution network is controlled, meaning in the supply line or return line.

The distribution network carries cold water from the generation plant to spaces that require cooling. How this water is controlled partly determines how efficiently the cooling system operates and how well it adapts to changing conditions.

What functionality levels are there?

This service has three functionality levels, numbered 0 to 2. This is fewer than many other smart-ready services within the SRI, where four or five levels are often possible.

• Level 0: constant temperature control. The chilled water temperature is fixed, regardless of outdoor conditions or demand.
• Level 1: outdoor temperature compensated control. The chilled water temperature adjusts based on outdoor temperature.
• Level 2: demand-driven control. The system regulates temperature based on actual cooling demand in the building.

A higher level typically means finer alignment between energy use and actual cooling need.

How does this service contribute to the SRI score?

This service is not part of method A, the simplified version of the SRI methodology. It counts only in method B, which assesses all 54 smart-ready services across the nine domains of the SRI.

The achieved functionality level is measured against seven impact criteria, such as energy efficiency and comfort. Together with other services in the Cooling domain, this result determines the contribution to the overall SRI score, expressed as a percentage and classified into one of seven classes.
