What does this smart-ready service measure?

This service assesses how the temperature of a heat generator is controlled. It covers all heat generators except heat pumps, such as gas boilers, oil-fired boilers or other combustion appliances.

The Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) is a European methodology that measures how well a building uses smart technology. This service is part of the Heating domain, one of nine domains within the methodology.

The service is included in method A, the simpler of the two calculation methods within the SRI.

What functionality levels are there?

The methodology distinguishes three levels, numbered 0 to 2. Each level represents a step in how much the control adapts to conditions.

• Level 0: Constant temperature control. The heat generator delivers a fixed temperature, without adjustment for external factors.
• Level 1: Variable temperature control depending on outdoor temperature. The system adjusts the flow temperature based on weather conditions outside.
• Level 2: Variable temperature control depending on load. The control matches the temperature to actual heat demand, for example through the set point of the flow temperature.

A higher level typically means more efficient operation of the heat generator, because energy is less often wasted on a temperature higher than necessary.

Why does this count towards the score?

Each smart-ready service within the SRI is assessed against seven impact criteria, such as energy efficiency and comfort. The functionality level of this service contributes to the overall score of the Heating domain.

That score counts towards the building's final class, which ranges from below 20 percent to 90 to 100 percent. The regulation of the heat generator is one of many components that together form the picture.
