What does service E-12 measure?

Service E-12 assesses how a building provides information about electricity consumption. The question is whether a building management system collects consumption data and whether that data is also fed back to users or managers.

The service is part of the Electricity domain, one of nine domains within the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI). Within this domain, the focus is on how intelligently a building handles electricity generation, storage and consumption.

What functionality levels are there?

The Smart Readiness Indicator uses functionality levels from 0 to 4. For E-12, the scale ranges from no reporting to an advanced system with personalised recommendations.

• Level 0: no electricity consumption reporting.
• Level 1: reporting of current consumption at building level.
• Level 2: real-time feedback or benchmarking at building level.
• Level 3: real-time feedback or benchmarking at device level.
• Level 4: real-time feedback at device level with automated personalised recommendations.

A higher level means more detail and more automation. At level 4, a user does not need to analyse data themselves; the system does this and provides advice.

Why does method A apply here?

The SRI has two assessment methods. Method B covers all 54 smart-ready services, method A is a smaller set of 27 services for faster assessment.

E-12 being in method A means this service also counts in a simpler, less time-consuming assessment of a building. This makes the service relevant for building owners who want a quick indication of their score.

How does this count towards the score?

Each smart-ready service is assessed against seven impact criteria, such as energy efficiency and user convenience. These criteria, together with a weighting factor, determine how heavily a service counts in the final domain score.

The final SRI result is a percentage, which is placed into one of seven classes, from below 20 percent to 90 to 100 percent.
