What does MC-30 measure?

MC-30 examines the extent to which a building has one central platform for controlling technical building systems. Think of heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting that are managed through one system rather than separately.

The smart-ready service belongs to the Monitoring and control domain, one of nine domains within the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI). Within this domain, the assessment focuses on how well technical systems work together and how intelligently that coordination is organised.

What functionality levels exist?

MC-30 has four levels, from 0 to 3, that reflect the degree of automation and optimisation.

• Level 0: No central platform present.
• Level 1: One platform, but control of multiple technical building systems happens manually.
• Level 2: One platform with automated control and coordination between technical building systems.
• Level 3: Like level 2, supplemented with optimisation of energy flow based on occupancy, weather conditions and electricity grid signals.

The higher the level, the more a building can adjust automatically and independently without manual intervention.

Why does this smart-ready service count in the SRI score?

The SRI assesses buildings using 54 smart-ready services, spread across nine domains. MC-30 is one of the key functionalities within this methodology and counts via seven impact criteria, such as energy efficiency and comfort.

Because MC-30 is also part of method A, the smart-ready service counts towards the simpler assessment that suits smaller buildings. This makes the service widely applicable, from office buildings to utility buildings with larger installation capacity.
